Acceptance Insurance is growing and we are adding a Compensation Manager to our Human Resources team at our Corporate Office located in Nashville, TN.


Position Overview:

The Compensation Manager is responsible for managing the organization’s compensation function to include reconciliation of multiple company bonus programs and carrier accounts. The Compensation Manager plans, develops and implements new and revised compensation programs, policies and procedures to be responsive to the company's compensation strategy and competitive practices. This position is also responsible for ensuring through audits, legal reports and ensures all company compensation programs are consistently administered in compliance with company policies and government regulations.

Company Overview:

We are principally a retailer, servicer and underwriter of non-standard personal automobile insurance based in Nashville, Tennessee. Our insurance operations actively generate revenues from selling non-standard personal automobile insurance policies and related products in 16 states. We currently conduct our servicing and underwriting operations in 13 states and are licensed as an insurer in 13 additional states.


At March 31, 2017, we leased and operated 355 retail locations and a call center staffed with employee-agents. Our employee agents primarily sell non-standard personal automobile insurance products underwritten by us, as well as certain commissionable ancillary products. In most states, our employee-agents also sell a complementary insurance product providing personal property and liability coverage for renters underwritten by us. In addition, retail locations in some markets offer non-standard personal automobile insurance serviced and underwritten by other third-party insurance carriers for which we receive a commission. In addition to our retail locations, we are able to complete the entire sales process over the phone via our call center or through the internet via our consumer-based website or mobile platform. On a limited basis, we also sell our products through selected retail locations operated by independent agents.

  • Monitors the effectiveness of existing compensation policies, guidelines and procedures recommending plan revision as well as new plans that are cost-effective and consistent with compensation trends and corporate objectives; coordinates implementation and provides guidance to corporate staff.
  • Evaluates job positions, determining classification (exempt/non-exempt) and salary
  • Prepares occupational classifications, job descriptions and salary scales
  • Plans, supervises and coordinates work activities of staff relating to compensation and benefits matters.
  • Prepares detailed job descriptions and classification systems to define job levels and families
  • Fulfill all reporting requirements of all relevant government rules and regulations, including the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA)
  • Manage the design and development of compensation tools to guide manager through compensation decisions.
  • Reconciles all company bonus files for accuracy prior to payout.
  • Provides advice to corporate staff on pay decisions, policy and guideline interpretation, and job evaluation, including the design of creative solutions to specific compensation-related programs.
  • Manages the administration of direct compensation (executive, exempt and nonexempt cash compensation programs) for corporate staff, including the processing, recording and reporting of compensation-related actions related to salaried employees.
  • Develops techniques for compiling, preparing and presenting data.
  • Supervises the participation in, conducts and/or recommends exempt and nonexempt salary surveys to ensure company compensation objectives are achieved.
  • Keeps apprised of federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations to ensure company compliance.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics or equivalent.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of compensation experience.
  • Proficiency using Human Resources software (ADP Workforce Now, Ulti-Pro, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Excel
  • Advanced use of general or proprietary systems and Microsoft Office products
  • Advanced Excel skills 
  • Above average proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
