Acceptance Insurance is currently seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join our Executive team at our corporate office based in Nashville, TN (Green Hills area).


Position Overview:

The Chief Financial Officer oversees all the financial activities of the corporation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulatory and advisory organizations in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the industry. This role also leads the Finance team, which includes Accounting, Treasury, Accounts Payable, Financial Planning & Analysis, Actuarial and Payroll. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Chief Financial Officer is also responsible for continuously evaluating both short and long term strategic financial objectives.


Ideal candidate must at least 5 years senior financial management experience within the insurance industry.

Company Overview:

We are principally a retailer, servicer and underwriter of non-standard personal automobile insurance based in Nashville, Tennessee. Our insurance operations actively generate revenues from selling non-standard personal automobile, motorcycle, commercial and life insurance policies and related products in 15 states. We currently conduct our servicing and underwriting operations in 17 states.


Acceptance Insurance leased and operated 349 retail locations and a call center staffed with employee-agents. Our employee agents primarily sell non-standard personal automobile insurance products underwritten by us, as well as certain commissionable ancillary products. In most states, our employee-agents also sell a complementary insurance product providing personal property and liability coverage for renters underwritten by us. In addition, retail locations in some markets offer non-standard personal automobile insurance serviced and underwritten by other third-party insurance carriers for which we receive a commission. In addition to our retail locations, we are able to complete the entire sales process over the phone via our call center or through the internet via our consumer-based website or mobile platform. On a limited basis, we also sell our products through selected retail locations operated by independent agents.

  • Confers with the President and CEO and the Executive Leadership Team to set the company’s strategy and prioritize key initiatives.
  • Directs the preparation of all financial reports (GAAP and Directs the preparation of all financial reports (GAAP and STAT), including income statements, balance sheets, reports to shareholders, tax returns, and reports for government regulatory agencies.
  • Leads the company’s annual budget and quarterly forecast processes.
  • Review all month-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations and corporate/overhead cost allocation.
  • Participates in key decisions as a member of the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Maintain credibility for the Finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the CEO/President, the Board of Directors and other Executive Leaders in performing their responsibilities.
  • Serves as Corporate interface to both internal and external contracted auditors.
  • Reviews reports to analyze projections of sales and profit against actual figures, budgeted expenses against final totals, and suggests methods of improving the planning process as appropriate.
  • Serve as an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the corporation may enter.
  • Analyzes company operations and provides recommendations for improvements in performance and efficiency.
  • Develop performance measures that support the company’s strategic direction.
  • Ensures that the company complies with all financial regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team.
  • Studies long-range economic trends and projects company prospects for future growth in overall sales and market share, opportunities for acquisitions or expansion into new products and geographies. Estimates requirements for capital, land, buildings, and an increase in the work force.
  • Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems, processes, tools and control systems.
  • Report financial results to the Board of Directors.

Job Requirements


  • A degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration, preference will be given to candidates with a CPA designation.
  • A minimum of 5 years as a Divisional or Corporate Chief Financial Officer equivalent, preferably in a publicly traded company with progressive experience.
  • At least 5 years senior financial management experience within the insurance industry
  • Knowledge of database and accounting computer application systems to supply the most accurate financial information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus exceptional organizational skills.
